1 on Ophir
The creatively-named apartment building at 1 Ophir street is typical of many of the smaller apartment blocks erected on the Auckland city fringe in the last 10 years.
On 10th July 2007 a heavy storm tore through Auckland and ripped off the roof of 1 on Ophir, much to the surprise of its residents. To add insult to injury the recently made homeless residents then had to deal with attempted looting of the soggy remnants of their possessions the following day.
The apartment building suffered major structural damage and remained roofless for 3 months before repairs were finally made.
