Auckland Airport
Located on the edge of Mangere, south of the city. Auckland Airport is the largest airport in the country and is the first place many visitors to New Zealand land.
Auckland Airport has three terminals: the international terminal, the Qantas domestic terminal and the Air New Zealand (any everyone else) domestic terminal.
International Terminal
Auckland International Terminal is growing and is undergoing renovations which will split the departing and arriving passengers. Theres many gift/tourist shops. Apparently Auckland Airport is also not a bad place to sleep in if you're stuck, see: http://www.sleepinginairports.net/asia/auckland.htm
It's important to realize there's two sides to the terminal There's the public section, then once you've checked in there's a big area just for passengers. This of course isn't counting the areas just for staff.
On the public side there's
- a food court
2 McDonalds,
- 2 BNZ banks,
- a bar/restaurant (name???),
- numerous gift shops,
- duty free shops,
- Whitcoulls book shop
This is all repeated on the passenger side only bigger. There's
- a food court,
- bar,
- two Whitcoulls bookshops,
- art stores,
- clothing stores
- and numerours numerous duty free shops (unlike maybe some other airports it is possible to buy duty free coming into Auckland as well as leaving).
Air NZ Domestic Terminal
This is the main domestic terminal for Auckland. Facilities are pretty basic, a bookshop, a coffee shop, no bar??
Qantas Domestic Terminal
Located right next to the Air NZ Terminal this is where to go for domestic Qantas flights. There's not much too this terminal, so there's not much to say. The gates are upstairs, there's a coffee lounge downstairs along with ticketing and the backage pickup.
