"...it's ok to eat fish 'cause they don't have any feelings." - Kurt Cobain.

The Auckland Fish Market is a great place to go for some of the freshest fish and chips around. If you're into buying a whole Snapper that was earlier in the day dodging cruise ships in the gulf or a live Crayfish then it's probably also the best place to go. I also noticed that they had the odd Muttonbird or two if you're looking for something a bit out of the ordinary for round here. The fish & chips are served from the sushi place which, as you may expect, also serves some melt-in-your-mouth sushi & sashimi. There is also a delicatessan that has a nice selection of local and imported goods. There's a couple of restuarants to try besides the Sushi/F&C place; a small cafe serving noodles with fish and a laksa curry looked like it might have been good as well, plus from the board they had outside it looked really decently priced for lunch. The also offer a series of classes in things like smoking fish, and various local chefs who'll teach you how to cook the things.

Apparently if you can get up early enough you can also watch New Zealand's only live seafood auction.

Address: corner of Jellicoe and Daldy St, Viaduct.

There's a free bus that will take you to the market. It operates from 7:00am to 7:00pm Monday - Sunday. It picks up and drops off from Stamford Plaza, DFS Galleria, CrownPlaza, SkyCity, Carlton, City Life, Copthorne, Sebel and the Hyatt on every second trip.
