The largest bookstore in Auckland (and indeed in New Zealand) is Borders, located on QueenStreet just down from AoteaSquare. They also carry a selection of CDs and DVDs.
Whitcoulls Queen Street store is on the corner of QueenStreet and Victoria Street. It's also a substantial bookshop. There are also numerous suburban branches of Whitcoulls.
Dymocks has a large store in Queen Street in the block between Victoria and Wellesley Streets, and a smaller store in Newmarket.
The only other significant chain of bookstores is Paper Plus, which sells both books and stationery.

The largest second hand bookshop is the HardToFind Bookshop in OnehungaMall. There are also branches in KarangahapeRoad and Devonport.
For magazines, the specialty shops are MegaMags in Queen Street and Magazino in Ponsonby Road. Borders and Whitcoulls in QueenStreet also have a substantial range of magazines.
