Cornwall Park/One Tree Hill Domain
Country comes to town. You can hang out here with the sheep and Simmental_Cattle . Other attractions include barbeques (electric and wood fired), numerous picnicing possibilities, John Logan-Campbell's relocated batchelor-pad, and a rumoured geocache or two.
If you really want, you can get up while it's still dark and run around the hill, while trying to avoid all the other people running about in the dark. Or you could wear a head torch, and they'll all avoid you. Even when it's not dark. Especially when it's not dark.
One Tree Hill is actually a 182 metre volcanic peak. There used to be one tree on its peak as you may have guessed, but it died after repeated exposure to the U2 song of the same name and was cut down so that it wouldn't fall over and crush any morbid teenagers.
For the geeks out there: Mozilla Firefox 0.9 was named One Tree Hill by Auckland resident and (at that time) Firefox lead engineer Ben Goodger.
