Devonport

Devonport is a historic seaside town, located on the NorthShore - the town visible from the CBD on the other side of the harbour.

There is a sandy beach ideal for a bit of splashing about. The town itself consists of a main street, populated with (licensed) cafes, takeaways, and art shops. MtVictoria is easy walking distance from Devonport, and offers spectacular views of the city and harbour.

Getting There

If you're on the south side of the Harbour Bridge, getting there is a long drive by car, and involves patiently waiting through many sets of lights, and doesn't guarantee you a park once you reach your destination. Although parking is mostly free!

An alternate more exciting option, is to travel by ferry from the FerryTerminal in the Auckland CBD. Tickets are $4.50 one way, and get you there in 15 mins. Ferries run every 1/2 hour til midnight daily.

Recommendations

Devonport now has it's own monthly Farmers Market offering excellent fresh produce, great baked goods and a host of other delicacies. Bring an empty picnic basket to fill at the market and wonder over to Windsor park or to the beach for lunch in the sun.

Have takeways on the beach, or up Mt Victoria if you are feeling adventurous, go for a swim on the beach, watch the sunset, or just go there for a beer or coffee and cake. Great place for a date!
