Once upon a time travelling to New Zealand was an ecomonic dream for travellers because you could get two "Pacific Pesos" (as the NZ dollar was affectionately known) for every US buck. Not anymore. A strong New Zealand economy and a weakened US $ have strengthened the kiwi currency so that now the exchange rate hovers around the .70c mark.

Most banks in NZ will exchange most currencies into NZ dollars. The CBD though is dotted with money changers, cambios, and bureau du changes of all shapes and sizes. Rates are usually posted and a commission is charged for the service.
